The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the shooting of a Salinas man in Prunedale early this morning.

Deputies responded to a report of a fight and shots fired at 10151 Reese Circle around 2:20 a.m. and found blood and three fired 9-millimeter shell casings, according to the sheriff’s office.

Around the same time, the Natividad Medical Center in Salinas notified police about a man who had come to the emergency room with a gunshot wound to his leg, sheriff’s officials said.

Deputies questioned the victim, identified as Joseph Garcia, about the shooting and his attacker, but he refused to share any information, sheriff’s Cmdr. Lisa Nash said.

Two cousins who were at the scene of the shooting and had taken Garcia to the hospital also did not want to talk to investigators, Nash said.

Detectives are continuing to investigate the case.
