The San Francisco medical examiner’s office has identified a 50-year-old local man as the resident who perished Friday in a residential fire in the 500 block of Shields Street.
Louis Decolator Jr. was pronounced dead at the scene of the fire, which was contained to a room on the second floor of the building, fire Lt. Mindy Talmadge said.
The fire was reported shortly after 8 p.m. and controlled within 15 minutes, a fire dispatcher said.
The fire caused about $60,000 damage to the building’s structure and about $80,000 to its contents, Talmadge said.
The cause of the fire appears to be accidental.
