An evacuation order has been issued for residents in the Felton Grove area in Santa Cruz County due to the rapid rise of the San Lorenzo River at Big Trees, a county spokeswoman said.
Warning sirens were sounded to alert the area’s 100 to 200 residents about the situation, spokeswoman Dinah Phillips said.
The San Lorenzo River has reached 17 feet and is rising quickly, indicating that there may be a logjam upriver, she said.
Crews are working to determine if there are any blockages.
