A four-alarm fire at a house in San Jose burned for nearly five hours this morning before firefighters brought it under control.

The blaze was reported at a home in the 500 block of East Julian Street at about 2:50 a.m., San Jose fire Capt. Barry Stallard said. It was controlled at 7:38 a.m.

The fire caused an estimated $300,000 to $500,000 in damage, Stallard said. “There’s a lot of damage inside,” he said.

Investigators believe the two residents of the home, a man and his adult son, left a fire burning in the fireplace when they went to bed and it spread to the rest of the home, Stallard said.

No injuries were reported.
