Police are investigating whether anti-police graffiti on the exterior walls of a San Jose home where a fire burned this morning is connected to the discovery of a body inside the charred residence.
The body was found in the basement of the single-story, ranch-style home atop a hill at 5827 Brasilia Way, near Almaden Lake Park, at about 7:40 a.m., police Sgt. Ronnie Lopez said.
The two-alarm fire, reported at about 3:20 a.m., burned roughly half the house before firefighters contained it.
“When we got here, there was smoke and flames shooting out from the attic,” San Jose fire Capt. Scott Kouns said.
Lopez said police are investigating the graffiti, which he described as “vulgar,” and its relation to the fire, considered “suspicious.”
Police and fire investigators are expected to remain on site today to determine the cause.
