A fire at a home in Palo Alto on Sunday caused an estimated $250,000 in damage, a fire spokesman said.
The one-alarm blaze occurred at about 4:25 p.m. in the bedroom of a single-story house located at 1563 El Camino Real, according to Deputy Fire Chief Roger Bloom.
Firefighters arrived to find a computer in flames and heavy smoke pouring out from inside the home, Bloom said.
Bloom said that the fire was extinguished within 15 minutes.
It appears an unattended candle caused the fire, Bloom added.
Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the bedroom, but the home sustained significant smoke damage throughout, Bloom said.
He said that the mother of the homeowner, who lives in a cottage behind the home, reported the fire after being alerted by smoke alarms.
The tenants were not home at the time of the fire, but have been temporarily displaced, Bloom said.
No injuries were reported.
