Tuesday was a big night for incumbents in Los Gatos as all three held onto their seats in the town council race, unofficial election results showed.
Mayor Rob Rennie secured 31.16 percent of the vote, Councilwoman Marico Sayoc came in second with 27.38 percent and Vice Mayor Steve Leonardis took third with 25.86 percent.
Rennie will return for a second term to tackle issues such as traffic congestion and oversee a new program that aims to ease traffic around some of the busiest schools in town. He is interested in building smaller units for millennials and seniors on the remainder of the North 40 property.
Los Gatos residents can expect Sayoc to take up development and beach traffic in her second term. She also has pledged to advocate for affordable housing when considering development proposals.
In his third term, Leonardis says he intends to go to war on cut-through beach traffic. He also plans to straighten the Los Gatos portion of Highway 17 and will be seeking to get stop lights installed on Winchester and Los Gatos boulevards to improve traffic flow.
Larry Maggio, a member of the Los Gatos Personnel Board and commander of the American Legion Post 99 in Campbell, came in fourth place with 15.60 percent of the vote.
A measure that will raise the local sales tax by one-eighth of a cent, adding about 13 cents to a $100 purchase, passed by a slim margin Tuesday night. Measure G is a general tax, meaning funds could be spent on costs such as fixing potholes and police services.
