A San Jose man has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon after being accused of stabbing a man and abducting an 18-year-old woman in San Jose last weekend, prosecutors said.

Brian Bui Adrong, 28, who also goes by the name Tony Pham, was arraigned on Thursday on an assault with a deadly weapon charge with an added enhancement for inflicting great bodily injury, prosecutor Vicki Gemetti said.

If convicted as charged, Adrong could face up to 19 years in prison, Gemetti said.

The charges stem from an incident on Sunday morning when he allegedly stabbed a 28-year-old man and then kidnapped Judy La at a home in the 2600 block of Lucena Drive, according to police.

The stabbing victim was transported to a local hospital with multiple stab wounds but is expected to survive the attack.

Adrong turned himself in to police Monday night and with him was La, who did not appear to have been harmed, police Sgt. Ronnie Lopez said. Lopez said the victims are both San Jose residents and that all three knew one another.

Adrong is expected to enter a plea on Oct. 21.
