A 32-year-old man who pleaded guilty to a previous rape charge was arraigned in Sunnyvale this afternoon on new charges stemming from two unsolved cases.

Luis Lopez of Sunnyvale was linked by DNA to two unsolved cases after he pleaded guilty to a rape charge on Aug. 21, Santa Clara County District Attorney spokeswoman Amy Cornell said.

The Santa Clara District Attorney’s Office charged him with one count of rape in connection with a Dec. 22, 2007, incident in San Jose and another count of rape with special allegations for kidnapping in a Jan. 28, 2008, incident in Sunnyvale.

Lopez is expected to enter a plea on the two new charges on Dec. 10.

If convicted of the two new charges, Lopez could face 40 years to life in prison, in addition to two years he must serve for the case in which he pleaded guilty, according to the district attorney’s office.
