Petaluma police Wednesday night arrested a man who allegedly attempted to burglarize his former home.
A resident reported a burglary at her home in the 1700 block of Putnam Way shortly after 11 p.m.
She recognized the suspect as a previous tenant and attempted to confront him, but he fled, according to police.
Officers surveyed the home from outdoors and saw the suspect was inside. They sent in a police dog to search for him after he ignored officers’ repeated demands to come outside, police said.
The dog found the man hiding in the office beneath a computer desk, police said.
Officers took the suspect, identified as 38-year-old Kevin Fowlie, to a medical facility to receive treatment for an arrest-related injury. He will be booked into Sonoma County jail on a residential burglary charge, according to police.
Police determined Fowlie was an ex-felon. He had allegedly loaded items from the home into the victim’s car in the garage, which had the key in the ignition, according to police.
