A 40-year-old man was killed in a pedestrian-versus-train accident north of Soledad on Wednesday, according to the Monterey County coroner’s office.
The accident occurred at about 5 p.m. on railroad tracks near U.S. Highway 101 and Camphora Road.
The man, whose name has not yet been released, was walking along the tracks by himself, sheriff’s Cmdr. Mike Richards said.
“It appears to be an accident,” Richards said. “He may have been listening to his iPod.”
An autopsy will be conducted on Friday.
