A man was killed in a drive-by shooting outside his home near Prunedale Wednesday night, a Monterey County sheriff’s spokesman said today.
Sheriff’s deputies found the victim, identified as 29-year-old Fernando Cazares, suffering from gunshot wounds at his home in the 400 block of Maher Road at about 9:30 p.m., sheriff’s Cmdr. Mike Richards said.
Cazares was later pronounced dead.
It appears he was the victim of a drive-by shooting, Richards said. He did not have information about the shooter or car involved.
The sheriff’s office is investigating the death, which marks the second homicide of the year in the county’s unincorporated areas, Richards said.
