A San Jose man is being arraigned in Santa Clara County Superior Court this afternoon on murder and arson charges stemming from the December killing of a 39-year-old homeless man.

Quyen Nguyen, 41, is charged with murder and arson causing great bodily injury in connection with the death of Phuong Giang, district attorney’s office spokeswoman Amy Cornell said.

Giang was found burned to death between two buildings in the 1600 block of Tully Road at about 12:15 a.m. on Dec. 20, police spokesman Jermaine Thomas said.

A preliminary investigation indicated Giang was killed in an accidental fire but detectives determined his death was a homicide after speaking with witnesses.

Nguyen’s arraignment was scheduled for 2 p.m. in Department 23.
