A 28-year-old woman faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison when she is sentenced in November for causing a crash in Monterey County earlier this year that killed a 20-year-old Greenfield woman, according to the Monterey County District Attorney’s Office.
Kim Ngoc Nguyen, pleaded no contest at her arraignment Friday to gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.
She drove her vehicle across the center line on Imjin Parkway and crashed head-on into an Acura driven by Jeanette Martinez on March 3. Martinez died in the crash.
Nguyen, whose blood-alcohol content was .12 percent four hours after the crash, had been drinking earlier that night at Mortimer’s Card Room in Marina. A friend had taken her home due to her level of intoxication, but she took her sister’s Toyota Camry and left her house, according to the district attorney’s office.
Before crashing into Martinez’s vehicle, Nguyen hit a parked car while backing out of the driveway, a curb on Brostom Drive and the right rear panel of a moving car while driving on the wrong side of the road.
Nguyen is scheduled to be sentenced Nov. 12.
