The second lane of U.S. Highway 101 south of the Marin County and Sonoma County line near Petaluma was closed this afternoon after a big rig went off the roadway and into an embankment, California Highway Patrol Officer Aaron Quistad said.
The driver of the big rig was extricated and transported to a hospital, Sonoma County Fire Department spokesman Ken Reese said. The extent of his injuries was not known.
A Sig-alert was issued at about 2 p.m.
Units with the Sonoma County Fire Department were assisting CHP to clear up the roadway as of 3 p.m.
