Overturned cement truck blocks busy intersection

A busy thoroughfare in San Jose was shut down late this morning after a cement truck overturned, San Jose fire Capt. Scott Kouns said.

The San Jose Fire Department responded at about 11:10 a.m. to a report of an overturned truck at the intersection of Oakland Road and East Hedding Street.

The driver managed to exit the truck on his own and had lain down on the ground, Kouns said. He was transported to a hospital.

The truck was carrying about 66,000 pounds of cement but none spilled, Kouns said.

Two tow truck companies have been called to upright the truck. Kouns estimated the intersection would be closed until about 3 p.m.
