California Highway Patrol officers are trying to extricate a person from a vehicle that crashed into a tree this afternoon on northbound Lawrence Expressway in Santa Clara.
The crash was reported around 2:25 p.m. on the highway just north of El Camino Real.
CHP Officer Nicole Pacheco said the driver of the vehicle swerved to avoid a box on the roadway and crashed into a tree.
It was not immediately known how many people were in the vehicle or who was driving. At least one female suffered major injuries, Pacheco said.
The crash prompted the brief closure of a lane on the highway.
As of 3:30 p.m., the far left lane of the El Camino Real on-ramp was closed.
