Police arrested a man in connection with the April attack and robbery of a woman at the Gilroy Premium Outlets after he turned himself in last week on an unrelated burglary warrant.

Jaime Baldenegro, a 31-year-old Gilroy resident, turned himself in at the Police Department on Thursday, police said. The following day, a warrant was issued for his arrest at Santa Clara County’s main jail after detectives linked him to a robbery on April 21, police said.

Baldenegro is suspected of viciously attacking and robbing a woman in a restroom at the Gilroy Premium Outlets, police said. He allegedly made off with her purse before officers arrived.

Since then, police have arrested a person found cashing the victim’s checks.

Baldenegro was booked on three charges, including robbery, assault with great bodily injury, and burglary.

He is being held on $150,000 bail for the April incident in addition to a $50,000 bail for a police warrant charging him with residential burglary, police said.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the Police Department at (408) 846-0350. Anyone wishing to remain anonymous may call We-Tip at (800) 782-7463.
