Two people who are suspected of being involved in a street race \that resulted in the death of a 61-year-old pedestrian last month in Salinas have been arrested, police said.
Rafael Ibarra, 23, surrendered at the police station on Thursday afternoon, a day after officers located another suspect, Matthew Ledoux, 18, at his home in Salinas.
Police believe Ibarra and Ledoux met each other while driving on North Davis Road near Westridge Parkway on Feb. 6 and engaged in a street race where they were both allegedly going above the posted speed limit.
Ibarra’s vehicle struck and killed Scott Wallace as he was crossing the road north of the intersection at North Davis Road and Auto Center Circle, police said.
The impact catapulted Wallace’s body a significant distance, according to police.
Both men were booked into Monterey County Jail.
