A 17-year-old boy was killed this morning in Salinas in what appears to have been a gang-related shooting, according to police.

Officers responded to the shooting at about 8:25 a.m. in the 1100 block of Alamo Way.

The victim, identified as Salinas resident Jorge Martinez, was found on the sidewalk suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his upper torso and head, according to police.

Martinez was transported to Natividad Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Witnesses reported seeing a black compact car, similar to a Nissan Altima, speeding away from the area toward Pino Way, police said.

The driver of the car, described as a heavy-set man, is likely the suspect in the shooting, police said.

An autopsy will be conducted Wednesday.
