Albany police today released the identity of a 33-year-old man found dead in a wooded area of Albany Hill Park on Saturday.
Alfredo Gamboa was found at about 9:45 a.m. on the west side of the park, Albany police Sgt. David Bettencourt said.
It appears he was attacked with a large, heavy object, Bettencourt said. Police don’t yet know whether he was killed at the park or was placed there afterward.
Bettencourt said Gamboa’s city of residence has not been determined but that he was likely from the San Pablo or Richmond area. Gamboa worked a mechanic in those cities and in Berkeley, Bettencourt said.
The murder is the city’s first this year, and police are encouraging anyone with information to contact the Police Department at (510) 525-7300.
