A road maintenance worker was killed when he was struck by a vehicle in Gilroy this morning.

David Vogel, a city maintenance worker, was working in the area of 90 Farrell Ave. when a vehicle hit him at about 11 a.m., city officials said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police are investigating the incident.

Krisann Chasarik, a spokeswoman for the California Department of Occupational Safety and Health, said Vogel, 40, was doing marking work on the roadway when he was hit.

She said Cal/OSHA is conducting its own investigation into the death.

The city released a statement this afternoon that stated, “David was a valued and dedicated employee who will be sorely missed by all those who knew him.”
