Scholarship fund established in memory of SJSU shooting victims

A scholarship fund has been set up in memory of two San Jose State University students who were shot to death in a campus parking garage two weeks ago.

The university’s Department of Accounting and Finance has established scholarship funds in memory of Marcory “Cindy” Tarlit Caliguiran and Thomas Kyle Williams.

Caliguiran, 25, and Williams, 26, were shot on May 10 by Caliguiran’s husband, 54-year-old Napoleon Lavarias Caliguiran, inside of a car on the fifth story of the 10th Street garage.

After shooting Marcory Caliguiran and Williams, Napoleon Caliguiran shot and killed himself, police said.

Police are investigating the case — the first of its kind in the university’s 150-year history — as a murder-suicide that resulted from domestic violence between the couple.

Marcory Caliguiran and Williams were both honors students three weeks shy of graduation. Both will be conferred posthumous bachelor of arts degrees in business administration with a concentration in accounting during the May 28 commencement at Spartan Stadium.
