Soccer star Brandi Chastain bags groceries to raise funds for people with disabilities

Safeway shoppers in San Jose this morning had their groceries bagged by soccer star Brandi Chastain and other local celebrities as part of the retailer’s annual campaign to raise money for people with disabilities.

In commemoration of People with Disabilities Month and Autism Awareness Month, Safeway aims to raise millions of dollars for Easter Seals, Special Olympics and other organizations that help children and adults with autism and special needs.

Chastain was joined at the Safeway at 1530 Hamilton Ave. by two-time Paralympian wheelchair athlete Sharon Kelleher, Special Olympics athletes, San Jose Sharks mascot Sharkie, San Jose Giants mascot Gigante, San Jose Councilman Pierluigi Oliverio, NBC weather broadcaster Craig Herrera, San Jose Silicon Valley Chamber of Commerce vice president of public policy and communication Pat Sausedo, and representatives from Safeway.
