Donors who give blood at three depleted Stanford Blood Center locations beginning Monday will have a chance to attend a career-networking event later this month, according to a center spokesman.
The career counseling event, titled “Giving Blood works,” will give donors the opportunity to polish their resume and interview skills and also seek advice and guidance from career experts Cindy King and Georgia Adamson, according to Stanford Blood Center’s marketing manager John Williams.
Recruiters at the event will include representatives from Stanford University, Stanford Hospital and Clinics and the Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital.
“It’s a win-win for patients and donors,” Williams said in a statement. “Patients will have life-saving blood when they need it and donors get access to career opportunities.”
The aim is to rejuvenate the blood center’s inventory currently running low in seven out of eight blood types due to high usage this summer.
The career-counseling event will be held on Aug. 25 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the center’s Palo Alto site located at 3373 Hillview Ave. That site will also host a party for donors from noon to 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 20.
The events are open to anyone who donates blood between Aug. 17 and 22 at any of the centers in Palo Alto and at the Mountain View site at 515 South Drive.
The second Palo Alto center is located at 780 Welch Road.
The center asks that donors eat well prior to donation, drink fluids and should not have any cold or flu symptoms.
Donors in good health can schedule appointments by calling (650) 723-7831 or (888) 723-7831.
