Lorrie Sullenberger, the wife of Capt. Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger, will give a talk today in Hayward on the importance of health and wellness.
The Alameda County Office of Education and board of education vice president Eileen McDonald invited Sullenberger, a trainer and fitness expert who serves on Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s physical fitness council, to give employees tips on improving their health, Office of Education spokeswoman Claudia Medina said.
“The event will provide them with avenues of personal development,” Medina said. “We’re hopeful that they can take on practices to improve their health.”
As the wife of the famed pilot who safely landed a plane on New York’s Hudson River in January 2009 after a flock of birds disabled both of its engines, Sullenberger will also discuss the importance of being prepared for the unexpected in life, Medina said.
The event is open to the general public and will be held from noon to 1 p.m. in Room 142 at Alameda County Office of Education headquarters, located at 313 W. Winton Ave.
On Sept. 24, the Office of Education will host a health and green fair, bringing together local merchants involved in sustainable agriculture and utility companies to educate the community on making better decisions about energy management, Medina said.
