Gilroy police arrested a homeless man Tuesday suspected of chasing and stabbing a man in a park on Saturday afternoon.
The stabbing occurred at about 12:50 p.m. in Forest Street Park in the 7300 block of Forest Street, according to police.
The transient, identified as Jesus Negrete, 64, was arrested without incident at about 1:30 p.m. in the 7100 block of Crocker Lane following an investigation that identified him as the suspect.
Police said Negrete allegedly chased a man down a street and then stabbed him in the park. He fled before officers arrived on scene.
The victim was transported to a hospital with stab wounds to the torso, but has since been released, police said.
Negrete was booked into Santa Clara County Jail for assault with a deadly weapon.
