The Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office has identified the two toddlers who drowned in a pool at a San Martin home on Saturday as Aspen and Annalise Niva-Wiggle.
The father of the 2-year-old twins found them floating unconscious in the family’s pool in the 3000 block of Paseo Vista Avenue shortly before 4 p.m., according to the sheriff’s office.
The father had been working in the property around the house and the mother was inside the home at the time, sheriff’s officials said.
The father removed the toddlers and he and his wife performed CPR on them as they waited for deputies and medical personnel to arrive.
The children were taken to a hospital in Gilroy and then airlifted to Stanford Hospital. One of the toddlers died during the flight. The other child died Sunday morning.
Detectives are trying to determine how the children gained access to the pool, which is surrounded by a fence.
The incident is being investigated as an unintended death.
