A man and teenage boy were arrested Monday on suspicion of breaking into a home in San Jose and attempting to steal money and electronic items, a police sergeant said.
The homeowner called police around 2 p.m. to report the burglary as it was in progress at his house in the 1400 block of Colt Way, Sgt. Ronnie Lopez said.
He told police he had been monitoring his residential surveillance system and seen two unknown males enter his house and rummage through his property, Lopez said.
A pair of traffic enforcement officers in the area immediately responded to the home and found the suspects inside with the items in their possession, according to Lopez.
The suspects appear to have entered the house by using makeshift burglary tools to force open a side door leading into the garage. A window on the garage door that was boarded up was also forced open. The door leading from the garage into the house was open, Lopez said.
The officers arrested Gabriel Hernandez, 26, of San Jose and booked him into Santa Clara County jail. The second suspect, a 17-year-old boy, was booked into juvenile hall.
Both were booked on burglary and possession of stolen property charges.
