Monterey County sheriff’s deputies arrested two men on Thursday night in connection with the murder of a 45-year-old man who authorities initially believed had accidentally drowned in the Carmel River last month.
David Garcia Jr., 33, was arrested on suspicion of killing Walter Kenneth Alsberge, of Greenfield. Wes Emery Guidotti, 49, was arrested on suspicion of being an accessory to Alsberge’s murder.
Alsberge was found in the Carmel River at the Cherokee Acres area off East Carmel Valley Road on July 10. It was initially believed Alsberge slipped and fell into the river, but relatives and friends told the sheriff’s office his death was not an accident.
Investigators later determined Alsberge was murdered and that he died by blunt force trauma.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Investigator Matt Davis or investigative Sgt. Terry Kaiser at (831) 755-3772 or the tip line at (888) 833-4847.
