Among the three San Jose City Council races, two newcomers and an incumbent appear to be victorious, according to unofficial election results.
With 3,393 votes or 51.9 percent, Xavier Campos appeared to be slightly leading Magdalena Carrasco, who had 3,139 votes in the District 5 race as of 4 a.m.
Carrasco, a family and child advocate with First 5 Santa Clara, was the victim of fraudulent campaign mailers earlier this year, while Campos is the brother of Nora Campos, who is the current councilmember in the district but is being termed out of office.
In the District 9 race, Donald Rocha, a Cambrian School District board member, easily beat Larry Pegram, a retired financial planner, with 62.6 percent. Rocha had received 10,015 votes compared to Pegram’s 5,973 as of 4 a.m.
Madison Nguyen, the incumbent in the District 7 race, received 52.5 percent of the vote to defeat Minh Duong, a small business owner who had received 4,472 votes, or 47.5 percent, according to unofficial results.
