Veterans and volunteers will plant 12 trees in Menlo Park this afternoon in honor of men and women who have served in the military.
About a dozen veterans and 10 volunteers will participate in the tree planting, organized by the Palo Alto-based nonprofit tree care group Canopy.
“We’re planting a tribute, a living tribute to veterans,” said Catherine Martineau, Canopy’s executive director.
“We think it’s a very universal custom to plant trees in honor or in memory of people, and so that’s what we’re doing today in honor of Veterans Day,” she said.
The tree planting will begin at 2 p.m. at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center at 795 Willow Road.
Martineau said the organization hopes to make the tree planting an annual tradition.
