VTA launches online forum for riders to share ideas

To attract more people to give up their cars for public transit, the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority has launched an online forum to solicit ideas from riders on how to improve transit service.

The “New Rider Ideas” forum on the VTA website asks: “What would it take to get you to ride public transit?”

The interactive forum allows the public to vote on their top choices for what changes would encourage them to give up driving and take the bus or light rail instead.

VTA General Manager Michael Burns said the objective is to determine the motivating factors that persuade people to opt for transit besides the environmental benefits.

Ideas suggested so far include adding Wi-Fi, offering free weekend service and more express buses.

The forum can be accessed at www.vta.ideascale.com.
