A woman who died in a blaze in a Sunnyvale apartment building earlier this month has been identified by the Santa Clara County medical examiner’s office as 67-year-old Ahadah Ahmad.

Ahmad died on April 20 in a three-alarm fire at Grove Apartments, located at 243 Buena Vista Ave., according to Sunnyvale spokesman John Pilger.

She was a building resident.

Approximately 40 firefighters battled the blaze for about an hour. A firefighter also suffered smoke inhalation during the battle and was taken to a hospital for treatment.

The fire started on the first floor, which was heavily damaged. Then, it went up to the second floor and through the roof.

Firefighters used a fire ladder truck to put out small fires that started on neighboring buildings. The neighboring structures were minimally damaged.

Investigators are still looking into the cause of the fire, but preliminary results show the blaze was unlikely to be suspicious.
