The Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office has filed 17 felony charges against a 28-year-old San Jose man arrested last week for alleged sexual child abuse.

Gilroy police detectives arrested Efren Becerra at his home on July 1 after gathering evidence that allegedly revealed he had abused three girls over several years, starting in February 2002, according to police.

All of the girls knew Becerra, according to police.

The charges against Becerra are sexual intercourse or sodomy with a child 10 years of age or younger; oral copulation or sexual penetration with a child 10 years of age or younger; lewd or lascivious acts on a child age 14 or 15; and 14 counts of lewd or lascivious acts on a child under 14, according to the district attorney’s office. All are felonies.

Becerra is scheduled to enter a plea on Aug. 17 in Morgan Hill.

He is being held at Santa Clara County’s main jail on no bail.
