A Santa Clara County sheriff’s bomb squad is inspecting a package left behind this afternoon by bank robbers at a Wells Fargo in Cupertino, Sgt. Rick Sung said.

The bank, located in the 23000 block of Homestead Road, and a nearby Starbucks have been evacuated, Sung said.

The robbery happened at about 11:40 a.m. when two males wearing face masks pulled up in a gray sedan, entered the bank and demanded money, Sung said.

They grabbed an undisclosed amount of cash and took off, but left behind a duffel bag or package that appeared suspicious, he said.

The first suspect was described as 5 feet 8 inches tall with a medium build. The second was about 5 feet 7 inches tall with a heavy build. Both were wearing loose clothing and face masks, Sung said.

No one was harmed in the robbery and no weapon was seen, he said.

The bomb squad is inspecting the package with the help of a police dog and a robot, Sung said. Homestead Road has been shut down in the area.
