A person who was shot early this morning while standing on a sidewalk in Oakland died at a hospital this afternoon, a police spokesman said.
Officers responded to a report of gunshots fired in the 2800 block of High Street around 12:15 a.m.
Arriving officers learned from witnesses that a person had been shot and had been taken to a hospital by friends, Oakland police spokesman Jeff Thomason said.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the victim had been shot while standing on a sidewalk, Thomason said.
The victim was initially listed in stable condition but was pronounced dead around 3:25 p.m. today, according to Thomason.
The victim’s identification is being withheld pending next of kin notification.
