A Livermore judo instructor was arrested Wednesday for allegedly sodomizing a teenage girl in a New York City hotel room while acting as a chaperone on a group trip to a judo competition, police said today.

Ryan Rebmann, 29, was arrested in the 1500 block of Springtown Boulevard in Livermore Wednesday after a New York magistrate issued a warrant for the crime of forcible sodomy, police said.

Rebmann is an instructor at the Amador Judo and Jujitsu Studio, located at 847 Rincon Ave. in Livermore.

Police said Rebmann had been acting as the chaperone for three teenagers on a trip to the Dominican Republic for a judo competition in March.

On their way to the Dominican Republic, Rebmann and the students had a layover in New York City and stayed at a hotel overnight. The victim said Rebmann forcibly sodomized her that night in the hotel room.

The victim, a Livermore resident, reported the sexual assault on April 28 and detectives from the Livermore and New York City police departments launched an investigation.

Rebmann appeared in Alameda County Superior Court on Wednesday and waived his right to an extradition hearing, Livermore police said. He is being taken to New York City for prosecution and is in the custody of the New York City Police Department.

Detectives believe Rebmann has discussed the alleged sexual assault with others, including students.

They are concerned there have been similar incidents with past students and are asking parents of children who have interacted with Rebmann or have participated in overnight trips to discuss with their children the nature of their contact with him.

Anyone with information regarding this crime or any other crime involving Rebmann is encouraged to contact Livermore Police Department Lt. Matthew Sarsfield at (925) 371-4730.
