Five attorneys are vying for two Superior Court judgeships, and on April 14 they will state their cases at a candidates forum hosted by the League of Women Voters of Southwest Santa Clara Valley.

“They will speak about why they want to be a candidate and why they’re qualified to do this job,” said Josie Geisen, the league’s voter service director.

The five candidates are Paul Colin, Chris Cobey, Alexis Cerul, Steven Pogue and Cynthia Sevely. The forum will take place on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Campbell Community Center. The event is free and open to the public.

The candidates forum is one of several the league is hosting this spring. Another forum will be held on April 24, 7 p.m., for the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors District 5 seat being vacated by Liz Kniss. That event will be held at the Saratoga Senior Center, and candidates include Joe Simitian, a state senator who is being termed out; Kris Wang, a former Cupertino councilwoman; and Cupertino Councilman Barry Chang.

The league will also hold voter registration drives at various locations throughout April and May. One is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on April 17 at the grand opening of West Valley College’s remodeled student activities center. League representatives will also be at the campus twice a week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., until May 18.

The drives will also take place at area high schools, including Prospect on April 19, Los Gatos on April 25, Del Mar on April 26, Westmont on May 1 and Branham on May 3. The drives will all take place at lunchtime, with the exception of the Los Gatos High School drive, which will be held at 9:15 a.m.

Representatives will be available also at farmers markets on various Sundays in Campbell and Los Gatos.

The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan political organization that sponsors debates and distributes information about policy positions.
