Salinas police arrested a 37-year-old man early Friday morning in the city after finding methamphetamine in his car and discovering that he had violated the terms of his probation.

Jose Castro was stopped by officers for traffic violations at about 2 a.m. in the 500 block of John Street.

Police said Castro initially gave a false identity. When police determined his true identity, they also found he was on felony probation.

A search of Castro’s car revealed a bundle of methamphetamine, police said.

Castro was booked into Monterey County Jail for possession of methamphetamine, providing a false name to police and violating the terms of his probation.
