Vallejo firefighters are crediting a man for saving his neighbor’s life and home this morning from a fire that was caused by a malfunctioning electric blanket, according to the fire department.
A smoke alarm alerted a homeowner at 132 Howard Ave. that the recliner in his living room had caught fire because of the blanket, according to the fire department.
Mike Hayes, a neighbor across the street, saw the homeowner trying to extinguish the fire and went over to help, which firefighters said saved the homeowner from potential danger.
Hayes pulled the man out of his home, then went back inside to pull out the recliner.
Firefighters responded to a report of a fire at about 8:50 a.m. and found the burning recliner on the driveway. They extinguished the fire and used a blower to remove smoke from inside the home.
