The Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office has filed three felony charges against a 19-year-old San Jose man suspected of beating his nearly 2-month-old daughter to death.
The charges against Pablo Rosas Hernandez include murder, assault on a child resulting in death and inflicting corporal injury on a child, district attorney’s spokeswoman Amy Cornell said.
Hernandez will be arraigned in court Thursday afternoon.
Police arrested Hernandez shortly before 1 a.m. Monday in connection with the death of his baby, Anahi Hernandez. She died at a hospital after she was found unresponsive on Saturday night at a home in the 400 block of Old Julian Street, police spokesman Dirk Parsons said.
An examination by the Santa Clara County medical examiner’s office indicated that the baby had suffered blunt force trauma, Parsons said.
The death marks the city’s eighth homicide of the year.
Hernandez is in custody at Santa Clara County main jail without bail.
If convicted, he could spend 31 years to life in prison, Cornell said.
