Marin Humane Society seeking home for bonded cat and dog duo

The Marin Humane Society is seeking a home for a dog and cat duo that was surrendered to the shelter earlier this week in Novato.

Frieda, a 2-year-old female Chihuahua, and Morgana, a 9-month-old female tabby mix, were found huddled together in a purple backpack, humane society communications manager Carrie Harrington said.

“Bonded pairs of the same species are not unusual. But adopting an already bonded cat/dog pair is rare – and very special,” Harrington said.

The bonded pair is suffering the same fate as their owner, who lost her home as a result of the financial crisis.

Harrington said the number of animals being surrendered for adoption has increased, but there has also been an increase in people adopting from animal shelters and requesting help with vet expenses and pet food among other things.

“There’s a theory that perhaps people in this economy are traveling less and spending more time with their families,” Harrington said.

“Going to a shelter is more economical than going to a breeder.”

The shelter is accepting applications for Frieda and Morgana. The adoption fee for the pair is $225.
