Officers in San Jose are responding to a fatal crash this morning involving a 49-year-old woman, a police spokesman said.

Officers responded to a report of a fatal crash at about 7:20 a.m. in the 800 block of Branham Lane near Pearl Avenue, police spokesman Dirk Parsons said.

Witnesses told officers the woman was driving west on Branham Lane from Pearl Avenue when she suddenly veered toward the center island and rolled along the island before making an abrupt right turn and striking five parked cars, Parsons said.

She was transported to a hospital and pronounced dead.

She was the sole occupant in the vehicle and there were no occupants in the five parked vehicles, Parsons said.

There was no indication that drugs or alcohol was involved, Parsons said. He said officers are investigating the possibility that the victim was suffering from a medical issue.

As of 9:05 a.m., all lanes on Branham Lane were closed at Pearl Avenue.

The driver’s identity has not been released.
