Public meeting tonight on medical marijuana ordinance

The city of San Jose will hold a public meeting tonight to present a draft of a medical marijuana ordinance that would allow the city to regulate and tax pot clubs.

In March, the City Council voted to move ahead with crafting the ordinance, which the council will then consider placing on the November ballot.

The tax would provide revenue for city services that are threatened by the city’s $116 million budget deficit.

The council will decide on June 8 whether to place the proposal on the ballot. Voters across California will also weigh in on the legalization of recreational marijuana in November.

At tonight’s meeting, city staff will present a framework for the draft ordinance, collect public input and answer questions.

The meeting will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. in Council Chambers at 200 E. Santa Clara St.
