Rose Cliver, a 105-year-old survivor of San Francisco’s 1906 earthquake, will be among those gathering Saturday to mark the 103rd anniversary of the quake and fire with activities scheduled at several locations throughout the city.
Other attendees will include Mayor Gavin Newsom and San Francisco fire Chief Joanne Hayes-White. They will be joined by other dignitaries and celebrities as they travel in vintage cars and fire trucks to mark the exact moment of the earthquake at Lotta’s Fountain on Market Street at 5:11 a.m.
The commemoration will be followed by a stop at Dolores Park on Church and 20th streets to paint gold the fire hydrant that saved the Mission District churches in 1906.
The day will commence at 7 a.m. with a “Bloody Mary” breakfast at Lefty O’Doul’s, located at 333 Geary St. A screening of Alon Aranya’s film “1906” will take place at the Westin St. Francis at 9 a.m. The day’s activities will culminate at 11 a.m. with a “Survivor Luncheon” at John’s Grill, located at 63 Ellis St.
