The second victim of a deadly fire Sunday night in Richmond, who had been in critical condition at Kaiser Permanente’s Richmond Medical Center after being pulled from a burning home, has died, according to the Contra Costa County coroner’s office.
The coroner’s office identified the victim today as Cunisha Jean Jackson, a 23-year-old Richmond resident.
The one-alarm fire was reported at about 10 p.m. in a one-story triplex at 470 20th St. near Barrett Avenue, Richmond Fire Chief Michael Banks said.
Firefighters broke through a heavy door to reach the interior, where two young women were found unconscious and seriously injured, Banks said.
The victims were carried from the burning home to the street, where a medical team performed CPR, according to Banks. The two were then transported in critical condition to the hospital, where one victim, 22-year-old Krystal Giles, also of Richmond, died from her injuries.
Jackson remained in critical condition but died Monday afternoon.
Firefighters managed to control the fire by about 10:20 p.m., but the apartment was destroyed.
Damage was estimated to be about $200,000, Banks said.
A fire investigator is still working to determine the cause of the fire, Banks said today.
