Water department responds to water main break

The San Francisco Public Utilities Commission has responded to a water main break this morning on Van Ness Avenue at Broadway, a spokeswoman for the San Francisco Public Utilities said.

The break was reported around 3:30 a.m., spokeswoman Christina Kerby said.

Two lanes in the northbound direction are closed as crews work to reduce the flow of water, Kerby said. She expected the roadway to be closed for about four hours.

Kerby said the 8-inch water main was ruptured due to an old pipe. The break has not interrupted service to customers, Kerby said.

San Francisco firefighters and police also responded to assist.
