A wildland fire that has burned nearly 50 acres in Gilroy this afternoon is about 50 percent contained, a Cal Fire battalion chief said.

The blaze, which is burning near the 4700 block of Pacheco Pass Highway, was reported at about 1:20 p.m., Cal Fire Battalion Chief Jim Crawford said.

There are some homes in the vicinity but they have not been affected, Crawford said. However, he said, a nearby landfill is threatened.

No one has been injured or evacuated, Crawford said.

Traffic control is in effect in both directions of state Highway 152.

The South Santa Clara County Fire District and the Gilroy Fire Department responded to assist.
