The Santa Clara County medical examiner’s office has identified a woman who was killed by a suspected drunken driver on southbound Interstate Highway 880 in San Jose on Sunday as Amy Luong.

California Highway Patrol officers arrested Ray Salinas, of Santa Clara, in connection with the 21-year-old San Jose woman’s death.

Salinas, 20, allegedly drove a Chevrolet Malibu the wrong way on the highway and crashed head-on into Luong’s Honda Civic around 5:45 a.m. on Sunday, according to the CHP.

Paramedics pronounced Luong dead at the scene.

Salinas was taken to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center with major injuries. He was arrested there on suspicion of driving under the influence, driving the wrong way, and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.

His blood-alcohol content was at least 0.15 percent, according to Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office spokeswoman Lisa McCrary.

McCrary said Salinas could appear in court as soon as this afternoon.
